MOA senior advisor Bi Meijia meets WFP Deputy Executive Director, FAO’s Director of Human Resources

MOA senior advisor and Director-General of Department of Personnel and Labor Bi Meijia met with Mr. Ramiro Lopes da Silva, Deputy Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP), and Ms. Monika Altmaier, Director of Human Resources for the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), in Rome on July 11, 2016, respectively. Bi Meijia exchanged views with them on deepening China-WFP and China-FAO cooperation.

 

Mr. Ramiro Lopes da Silva reaffirmed the important role of China in the WFP. He proposed that the two sides strengthen cooperation in implementing the  Young Professionals Program and establishing the Technology Experts Network, and leverage China's expertise and experience to help agricultural development in developing countries. Bi Meijia stressed that China and the WFP enjoy solid foundation and broad prospect for future cooperation. He agreed with Mr. Ramiro Lopes da Silva on his proposal, noting that the WFP Office in China should further enhance its role and make contributions to achieving "zero-hunger' worldwide. 

 

In response to FAO's developments of human resources in Ms. Monika Altmaier's briefing, Bi Meijia expressed that China is wiling to make best use of its advantages, dispatch more professionals to the FAO, and jointly facilitate the achievement of FAO's strategic objectives.

 

During his stay in Rome, Bi Meijia also visited the Representation of the People's Republic of China to the United Nations Agencies for Food and Agriculture, and attended the first meeting of Chinese diplomats to Europe.
